WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS (Ages 4/5 Grade K) - What sport do you like? If you like them all or want to try then all, then Wide World of Sports is for you!  Instructors will teach a new sport each week and include basic rules, simple skills, fun contests and kids will get to see all the equipment needed to play each sport.  This is a very non-competitive atmosphere - with safe, proper size sports balls used.  Sports include Baseball, Basketball, Flag Football, and Volleyball.   At the end of each class, kids will get to try on jerseys and equipment used by the Blackhawk high school teams!

FLAG FOOTBALL (Grade 5K-3) - Strap on the flags, get your play in the huddle and then score the winning touchdown!  Teams are coached by members of the Fort Atkinson Blackhawk football team - with help from parents.  Teams meet on Saturday for a partial practice, then play a scrimmage game.  3rd graders not interested in playing tackle football are welcome to play flag football. Note:  Listen to WFAW 940AM (8:15-8:45) (if inclement weather)  Also:  We need parent volunteers for coaches.  At 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays, the coaches get the lesson plan for the day and brief discussion on teaching techniques.  Call 563-7781 if you are interested!

POMS/CHEERLEADING(Grades 5K-3) - The Fort High School Dance team will teach your daughter a halftime routing and cheers.  Spend the majority of class learning the routine and cheers and then the final 15 minutes will be spent cheering at the flag football games.  The last week features a special halftime dance routine and cheers on the Blackhawk Stadium field.

SUMMER - 2010
Registration will begin April 19th, 2010

 

T-BALL  (Age 5 & Current Grade K) - Here's your first chance to hit the Big Leagues!  Children are taught the proper techniques of throwing, catching, hitting and running the bases.  A low-key, fun style will be used to teach the fundamentals early in the season with instructional games played the rest of the season.  Safety balls and bats are used so players may gain confidence more quickly.  Players should provide their own glove, however a limited number of gloves will be available at the site.  Games, starting the week of June 28, will be played at the same time you sign up for, but may be played on a different day. This program includes a special evening session on Friday, July 23 called "Hot Dogs for Dad, Munchies for Mom" that includes a small meal while parents watch their kids play beneath the lights at Memorial Park.

If daytime baseball doesn't fit your schedule try our evening program.  Held on four consecutive early evenings, players will learn the basics of baseball and  participate in low key games.  The activity is held at Memorial Park.  Those registering for sessions 1-4 must wait until June 7 to sign up for sessions 5 or 6.

TENNIS   (Ages 5-14) - Learn the basics of grip and ground strokes and advance to serves and overheads.  More advanced players will fine tune their play through game situations and use of the ball machine.  Each session includes instruction twice weekly for four weeks led by instructors Tim Hartwick & Chris Sherer.  Class size is limited to 15. Tennis balls and racquets are provided, if needed.  Friday "Lessons Tournaments" will be held after each session - on July 9 and August 13.  The tournament is included in your lessons fee and allows a fun finish as players are introduced to scoring and match play.  Beverages and awards are provided.

MAIN STREET STUDIO DANCE CLASSES
 (Ages 3-18) 
6 - week summer run.  Many of the favorites from the school year schedule will return including:  Ballet and Creative Dance.  Classes will be offered for ages 3 through Adult and will be held once a week at the Municipal Building Dance Rooms (now AIR CONDITIONED). Full 24 week sessions will return in the Fall.

+++NEW+++  (Ages 5-Adult)  Clean Sweep Farms (cleansweepfarm.com) and the Fort Atkinson Parks and Recreation Department are teaming up to offer 2 different courses to teach horse riding and basic horsemanship.  Riders will learn proper horse care, grooming, tacking up, feeding, maintaining horse equipment, and more.  For more information - pick up a flyer at the Fort Parks and Recreation Office.  Basic Horsemanship (Lessons taught all year long)  Summer Horse Riding School & Day Camp (4 day camp - 24 hours of instruction)

Based on our department's popular Start Smart Sport programs...where your child will participate in 4 classes learning how to drive, chip and putt by utilizing you as their "coach". Our instructor shows the parents the proper techniques and teaching hints to be most successful for this age group. 
All the equipment is provided.  Minimum class size of 6 - Maximum class size of 12.

Easter Egg Hunt (Ages 1-7 and Ages 16+) - SPONSORED BY PARKS AND RECREATION, VERLO MATTRESS FACTORY OF FORT ATKINSON AND FORT OPTIMIST CLUB.  Hop on over to Jones Park RAIN OR SHINE    and help us find over 2,500 eggs the Easter Bunny has left for the kids of Fort Atkinson.  All parents and children will gather at the Jones Park Concession Stand and at 10:00 a.m. for instructions and signal to start the hunt.  12 lucky winners will also receive a large sand pail filled with Easter goodies. Bring your camera to get a picture with the Easter Bunny and Mattress Man. 

The second annual adult Easter Egg Hunt will take place at 10:30 in the Jones Park outfield.  Over 200 eggs will be scatted around the ball field for adults to find.  There will also be eggs with special prizes in them, including a free pool pass to the Aquatic Center, pillows and covers from Verlo and more!!

PEE WEE BASKETBALL Ages 3-4-5 Using smaller basketballs and hoops that are between 3 and 5 feet, your child will learn how to dribble, pass and shoot from their parent.  Our instructor will teach you the parent (or older sibling) a drill.  You then will go and teach your child that drill.

Easter Egg Hunt (Ages 1-7) - SPONSORED BY VERLO MATTRESS FACTORY OF FORT ATKINSON AND FORT OPTIMIST CLUB, hop on over to Jones Park RAIN OR SHINE    and help us find over 2,500 eggs the Easter Bunny has left for the kids of Fort Atkinson.  All parents and children will gather at the Jones Park Concession Stand and at 10:00 a.m. for instructions and signal to start the hunt.  Kids will split into two different groups depending on their age to search for the eggs.  Also, 12 lucky participants will win a special GIANT EASTER BASKET from the Easter Bunny.  Bring your camera to get a picture with the Easter Bunny and Mattress Man.  NEW an Adult only Easter Egg Hunt will take place after the children's.  12 lucky adults will also win a prize.

  FULL    Start Smart Sampler  (Ages 3-4-5) - Due to popular demand we have added a mini version of our five week Start Smart Series, which helps kids get ready for sports with a step by step approach to make sports fun.  Each sport being two weeks long will give you and your child a positive sports experience.
