» Weather conditions dances have been held in

100 degree+ - 215 kids - Back 2 School Dance on Sept 1, 2000 - it was so hot that the floors were wet after the dance and the glass windows frosted over!!

Windy & Snowy (blizzard conditions) - 204 kids - April 7, 2000 - between the wind and the snow, school was let out an hour early.  We could not get the word out to the kids about canceling the dance so we went ahead with it figuring if 50 kids showed up it was at least something for those 50 kids!

» Sponsors for the dances (provide chaperones and take in a percentage of the money brought it) - FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) - 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004

» Song most requested & played at the dances - Baby Got Back - 97 dances!
Other popular songs requested & played - Macarena - 50+ dances & any slow songs!

» DJ's that have spun tunes - DJ Whopper (48 dances), Starr DJ (41 dances), &
Audio Excellence (2 dances)

» 2 VCRs and 2 speakers played the music at the first few dances.  We had 5 VCR tapes each with 6 hours of non-stop music.  Each tape also had a sheet to let us know at what time each song was on.  Slow songs were in bold.  Before each dance, we would pick out a block of 5-6 songs in a row that the kids liked and play them.  Using our sheet, we could then get another tape ready with the other VCR and get another block of music cued up.  Also using our sheet with songs, we could tell when a slow song was going to be played, and run up to the stage and announce the next slow song.  About every month, we would tape another 5 tapes for the next batch of dances!

» After doing many dances with VCR tapes and seeing how popular the dances were becoming, the Youth Center purchased their own DJ equipment.  We used the same speakers, and mixer, along with 2 CD players and played music.  Between the Youth Center's collection and kids bringing their own CD's we were able to play 3 hours of non-stop music.  We added a $300 light show which was enhanced after the first year to a $1400 light show that still is used today!

» A couple of years back, a young DJ (Matt Joseph) that goes by the name Starr DJ was just starting out in the DJ business.  This young DJ used to come to the YC & its dances when he moved here in 8th grade.  With the backing of his mom, Starr DJ was able to acquire quite the sound system and cool light show and became the new DJ at Youth Center dances.  Since that time, Starr DJ has performed at weddings, proms, homecoming dances, private parties, & other dances becoming a very professional DJ.
